Lookalike logos...

Just read David Airey's post over at Logo Design Love. He has a list of comparable logos which is pretty interesting. Check it out. It's hard to believe when the Carrier logo was created someone didn't say "that looks an awful lot like Ford's logo."

I can see identities that aren't as world-renowned being duplicated by accident, but not popular icons.

The best logos are generally those that are simple. However, don't confuse simplicity with a lack of detail and meaning. Can similar logos still carry a unique purpose for each company? I believe they can. That's why logos must be created with a plan and strategy that supports them and not simply a trendy look-and-feel.

When we create an identity for a client at SOZO | Pivotal, there's always a strategy and story behind it. Incorporated into and oftentimes hidden within the design are multiple stories and meanings that only the client truly knows. I love when a client tells us how one of their customers asks "So, what does your logo mean?" It's an opportunity to talk about your brand and the identity of your company.
